  • What is Answering Machine?

    Answering Machine is an artificial intelligence-powered phone answering service for businesses.

  • Who is this for?

    We built Answering Machine for local service businesses that receive lots of phone calls. We have worked with caterers, plumbers, pool guys, pet service folks, you name it.

  • How do I get a phone number to forward my calls to?

    We will provide you with an Answering Machine phone number. You will then forward calls to that number. To get your Answering Machine phone number, sign in here and start your subscription. Starting your subscription will activate your Answering Machine phone number.

  • What can it do?

    We answer the phone for you with voice AI. Imagine what a kickass human receptionist would do. Most of those things, Answering Machine can do as well. Commonly: answer questions, take down caller information, triage, talk about your services, etc.

  • What does the voice sound like?

    Human. We put deep technical craftsmanship into making the voice sound kind, knowledgable, and... like a person.

  • Will my callers like it?

    Yes. We think traditional missed call, voicemail, and IVR/phone tree systems are so crappy that your callers will love something that works better.

  • Can I use it for all calls?

    Yes. You can direct all inbound calls to Answering Machine, or you can have it pick up only when you don't answer first.

  • How long does it take to set up?

    It can be as fast as two minutes if your website already contains most of what you want your Answering Machine trained on. We recommend blocking off an hour for testing and refinement.

  • Do I need to change my current phone setup?

    No. We'll help you forward your missed calls to us.

  • What if my business doesn't have a phone number yet?

    Totally fine. In that case you can give out the phone number we provide you, to your customers.

  • How do I forward calls?

    First, sign in and subscribe. Once you subscribe, you will receive an Answering Machine phone number in the app. Then start forwarding calls to that number.
